Purpose of this Program
The purpose of this program is to prepare the learner to manage the movement and supply of goods. It involves the planning, handling, storage and transportation of goods nationally as well as internationally .
The qualified learner is exposed to:
- Written and verbal communication within the business environment in a manner appropriate to the situation
- Fundamental business concepts relating to the Freight Logistics environment
- Information technology tools to ensure the effective and efficient handling, storage and transportation of goods within the Freight Logistics environment
- Developing and implementing strategies and action plans to ensure that goals and objectives, as set out in the strategic and logistical plans, are met
- The allocation of resources required in maximizing efficiencies in services and freight movement to achieve targets in a freight environment
- Application of strategies to establish and maintain relationships at all times
- Planning, implementing and evaluating freight location procedures to ensure freight integrity in a freight logistics environment
- The Management and proper care of freight by using handling, movement, securing and safeguarding techniques within the freight logistics environment
- The application of a range of contract documentation, Codes of Practice and professional Ethic practices as they relate to Freight Logistics
- Application of statutory health and safety requirements within freight storage transit areas within the freight logistics environment
- Application of Quality management system principles within the freight logistics environment
- Generating, communicating and the implementation of a logistics plan, which governs the economic and efficient movement and handling of freight so as to satisfy customer and industry requirements
- Application of the fundamental concepts relating to procurement, distribution, supply chain administration (operation) and logistics as they relate to Freight Logistics
- Application of International trade principles to formulate solutions to problems, where such solutions are reliant on informed judgement, which affect the safe and efficient movement of freight within the international arena
Duration of the learning programme
A learner embarking on this Qualification needs to obtain a minimum value of 242 credits to qualify for the Qualification; this learnership runs over a period of 24 months.
